Primer is an undercoat. It’s used to prepare the wall surface before you apply your chosen color. Primer is an especially importantstep when you want to:
Matte, also known as “flat” paint, has a non-reflective surface, which makes it a great choice for covering up flaws on the wall. It is generally the least durable finish, though. Use it for ceilings and master bedroom walls.
Eggshell sounds like a color but actually refers to a type of paint at the midway point in terms of shininess and durability. It is similar to satin finish. Suggested use: the walls of your living room or dining room.
Semi-gloss and glossy are the shiniest wall paints. They are dramatically reflective and at the same time, long-lasting ... great for brightening up a bathroom or a child’s bedroom.
Enamelis super tough and shiny. It can’t really be classed as a wall paint per se, but we include it here since enamel is ideal for contrasting or coordinating trim – for instance, baseboards, moldings, and chair rails to add a touch of class to your walls.
